From sketch to prototype: styling, modeling and assembly
It all starts with an idea, an inspiration. Our stylists draw on their daily lives to create cuts, color palettes and themes that will bring a new collection to life.
At the heart of this process, Séverine Brun, our collection director and granddaughter of the founder, Claudius Devernois, ensures that each piece embodies the essence of our house.
“Every six months, we recreate a collection. We start from scratch with this passion for finding new themes, color harmonies, prints and knits,” she explains.
Once the sketches have been drawn up, the pattern makers Charlotte and Corinne come on stage to create the pattern, representing the different parts of the garment.
Finally, the assemblers create a prototype, a real first draft of the model. The fittings then allow the cuts to be adjusted and the garment to be validated before it is sent into production.
Sampling and knitting, the essence of our house
Knitting is our specialty and our pride. In our workshops, located under our historic headquarters, 24 knitting machines produce around 20,000 pieces each year.
Hervé and Fred, our samplers, translate the stylists' ideas into computer programs. These are then tested and validated before production is launched by Martial, our workshop manager.
Each step of knitting requires precision and vigilance: the panels are checked to ensure optimum quality. The tension of the threads, the speed of the machines and the dimensions of the panels are adjusted so that each garment meets our standards of excellence.
Research and development, the orchestra of the collection
Our research and development (R&D) team ensures the link between creation and production. Sandrine, Émilie and Chloé follow each piece, from sketches to receipt of prototypes.
They work with our suppliers to select exceptional raw materials, often labeled and produced in France or Europe.
On the knitwear side, Virginie, our production manager, orchestrates the production launch in our workshops and at our partner manufacturers. By choosing the yarns, planning the colors and validating the prints with Séverine, she guarantees a perfect balance between style, comfort and environmental responsibility.
“It’s a lovely puzzle that starts with the thread and ends with the silhouettes in the shop windows,” confides Séverine Brun.
From the creative spark to the finished product, each step demonstrates unique know-how and a passion shared by our teams. Each garment tells a story that is both technical and human, reflecting the excellence of our house.
