The iconic jacquard knit.

A symbol of elegance and expertise, Jacquard knitwear embodies an exceptional textile tradition, where creativity is expressed through sophisticated patterns directly integrated into the material. This knitwear is distinguished by its flexibility and extensibility, offering incomparable comfort. Unlike prints, these designs come to life thanks to the meticulous interweaving of threads during knitting. This technique makes it possible to obtain distinct patterns on the right and wrong sides of the fabric, giving each piece a unique character.
The history of Jacquard
The history of Jacquard is deeply rooted in our regional heritage. This revolutionary process is named after its inventor, Joseph-Marie Jacquard, a weaver from Lyon who, in 1801, developed a machine that allowed the mechanical creation of complex patterns without manual intervention.
Although his invention initially met with reluctance from the Canuts, the silk workers, it quickly transformed the textile industry by subsequently applying it to knitting techniques, and is still used today, now controlled by computer.
JACQUARD, A HERITAGE OF KNOW-HOW
Jacquard made in Devernois.
Our House has always cultivated the art of Jacquard knitting , a know-how that has marked our history since the 1930s with the creation of men's jerseys that have contributed to the success of our brand.
Even today, we reinterpret this iconic knit through patterns that are both timeless and modern, perpetuating a tradition where quality and creativity meet. Each piece reflects our commitment to demanding craftsmanship, where Jacquard knit remains the soul of our house.
OUR EXPERTISE
Double Knitting (or double-sided knitting)
Double knitting is a knitting technique that allows you to create a reversible fabric, often two-tone. It consists of knitting two layers at the same time: a knit stitch for the front side and a purl stitch for the back side. This gives a thicker and more insulating knit, with a clean finish on both sides.
The main advantage is its reversible effect and the absence of floating threads, but it requires more time and practice. An expertise that we are proud to see continue in the heart of our historic workshops, where our experienced knitters and samplers work each season to reinvent our iconic Jacquards.
Our signature jacquard: the monogram
Among all our jacquards, the one we cherish the most: our monogram, which is proudly displayed on several pieces of our knitwear line. More than a symbol, it embodies a history and family know-how.
Intertwined like the threads that weave our stitches, this intertwined C and D (initials of Claudius Devernois, founder of Devernois) discreetly invite themselves onto our creations, in embroidery, on buttons or in patterns. Bearer of a rich heritage, the Devernois monogram remains the emblem of a passion for textiles that transcends eras while affirming the soul of a house that combines tradition and modernity.

At the heart of our historic workshops in Roanne, there are passionate women and men who have been working to pass on their know-how for almost 100 years.

For almost 100 years, collective know-how has passionately shaped each creation, embodying the heritage and excellence of our House.

Collections that master the art of passing time, icons that you can keep for a long time, without them aging.
