Because before knitting, there is the whole preparatory phase of working on stitches and designs. This work is called sampling.
Zoom in on this little-known profession, which has become rare, and yet is essential to the creation of a line of differentiable and qualitative knitwear.
As part of our House's DNA, we house under our feet a fleet of 24 knitting machines, which operate all year round, managed by a team of 5 knitters.
But at the beginning of knitting, there is first sampling. Hervé and Fred, our 2 samplers, have the mission of analyzing and modeling the ideas of Jacquard and stitches of the stylists and pattern makers, in a programming software. The idea: to transcribe into computer language the paper drawings of the knit stylists for an optimal rendering on the panels, once knitted.
The samplers are also tasked with developing new knits and new knitting stitches with a choice of suitable yarns, which they can suggest to the stylists and our collection director, in order to develop our collections and the product offering.
After the stylists' drawings are sent to Hervé and Fred, several hours of work, consultation with the style teams, and adjustments follow to create the perfect drawing, on the computer.
Once the program is finalized, they will test it on their personal knitting machine, to adjust the final rendering of the panel, before having it validated by Séverine, our collection director, and the stylists.
The programs created are then sent to the knitting team, and in particular to Martial, our workshop manager, for the production of the collection's models.
