Pattern making, where the piece finally comes to life. This is the essential step during which all the parts of the garment will materialize independently to finally form one at the very end of the process.
A profession that requires patience and attention to detail to create pieces with exceptional finishes and a perfect fit.
When the designers have imagined the collection, developed their first sketches, their idea is born, and the collection themes have been defined, the pattern makers intervene in the creation of the first models. Their goal is to bring the designers' drawing to life. Based on the sketches and measurements defined by the designers, Charlotte and Corine, our pattern makers will conceptualize the garment in its entirety by taking charge of the design stages of the piece.
This profession therefore requires that the people who practice it know all the methods of manufacturing a garment like the back of their hand, such as molding, which consists of creating a 3D canvas on a mannequin, or flat cutting, which is the pattern making of the body of the piece in 2D.
In fact, the pattern maker imagines the pattern of the garment, by modeling the different pieces of fabric that will create the piece such as the sleeves, the back, the front, or even the neckline. They transpose all of this onto special software, and they cut out all the parts of the garment in paper or stiff fabric.
Subsequently, a prototype of the garment is created by our assemblers/prototypists Charlotte, Mathilde and Stéphanie, in order to be adjusted and tested on a mannequin. This prototype will serve as a basis for the production of series parts.
All the expertise of the pattern makers actually lies in their understanding of volumes, to bring a flat drawing to life in 3D production, but also in their great technical knowledge, which will allow them to create pieces with perfect finishes, with cuts and details that make the difference. It is a profession that also requires great adaptability, since beyond creating patterns from A to Z, the pattern makers are sometimes required to modify existing patterns, to readapt and update an existing garment cut.
Modeling is therefore a job that requires great patience and a taste for teamwork, as in all professions involving style and creation.
